Today we went on safari to the desert. We were in one of 12 four wheel drives and the drivers of these vehicles raced the cars up and around the dunes, having first let the tyres down for travel over the sand. While we were in the desert we had a ride on Rajah, our camel. We held a hooded falcon, watched as others smoked apple-scented obacco through long pipes, and had their hands painted with henna. After a desert BBQ, we watched Noora who was an exceptionally talented Russian belly dancer. It was incredibly hot in the desert with the temperature soaring to 52 degrees Celsius. It is a very dry heat. Tonight, Valerie and Tom joined the ship. We have changed our table for dinner to sit with them. Because of excursions and shopping ashore, the four of us were the only ones at our table this evening, which worked out well as we talked and talked having not seen each other for nearly a month. After dinner we went on deck to watch as the ship set sail for Egypt, but we did not stay for long as it was so
hot. We then showed Valerie and Tom round some of the ship, listened to the quartet play in the atrium, and finally looked over the swimming pools. Bill decided to go for a swim, as the pools are open till midnight, but as I did my walk at 6.00 a.m. this morning I decided to relax in my air conditioned room.

ReplyDeleteJohn told me last night of this blog and I have just spent the last 60 minutes at work reading it (shhh). It is a fantastic read. Clearly you both loved India, its a place I have never considered seeing, but I might have to change that one day.
