Dawn Princess World Cruise 2010 - Tuesday June 15, 2010

Day 26 Dubai to Yemen
There was quite a bit of excitement on board the ship today. We began with a piracy drill shortly after breakfast, and then when we were having dinner the ship broke down right off the Yemen coast ,which is a centre for pirate activity. It took about three hours to get the electrical fault repaired. It is good to be sailing again now. The captain seems determined to make up the lost time as quickly as possible so we are steaming ahead with the result that there is a considerable amount of rolling. Today we persevered with our dancing class and learnt the Salsa which is really a very fast Rumba. Bill is continuing with the choir. There is a memorial planned for the day we are in Anzac Cove and the choir is going to be a part of this. They are going to sing the Australian and New Zealand national anthems, Waltzing Matilda, Now is the Hour and God Save the Queen as well as some hymns which have not yet been decided. Today’s lecture from Andrew Stuart was on War in the Desert. He talked about the SAS and their undeclared war in Oman in 1972 where a Fijian sergeant fought off single handedly 300 Yemeni rebels and thus saved Yemen from taking over Oman. Tonight, we were entertained by Jacques Renay, a Welshman, who sang Tom Jones songs. I thought he was very good at impersonating Tom and enjoyed such songs as Delilah and the Green, green grass of home. (Barbara) Below are
photos of the people on our dining table from Sydney to Dubai. (Bill)
