Day 56 In and out of Dublin
We woke this morning to the Captain telling us that for safety reasons we were not going into Dublin today because the westerly wind that was blowing made docking unsafe. We are now sailing across the Atlantic for Boston. All day people were complaining about the fact that the Captain had not waited to see if the weather conditions would change and that we would be able to dock safely. Conspiracy
theories were rife, and passengers were complaining that the Captain had done a “snow job” on us. Once again, it was the old story of a lack of communication by the Captain. Tonight, one of the staff told us that in Dublin there is just a window of opportunity for docking when the tide is just right. Because of the wind, we lost this window of opportunity this morning. What a pity the Captain did not explain this to us at the outset. Bev, I caught up with Lynn and Wayne and their two friends, Gaylene and Brian today. It was good to see Lynn looking so well. We learnt the MerenguĆ© at dancing class today. The steps are quite easy but there are many different steps, which makes it more complicated. Bill and I must be improving as we were able to dance it at the practice this evening. Now that Valerie and Tom have left we are back on our old table thanks to the forceful efforts of one member of the table who spent a considerable time arguing with the maĆ®tre d’. It was light until about 10.30 p.m. tonight and the seas have abated quite substantially. Bill is devastated because he has just learnt the Geelong was beaten by Adelaide. What is happening back there? We listened to our jazz band tonight. For all you St. Kilda supporters, their signature tune is “When The Saints Go Marching In”. (Barbara)
