Dawn Princess World Cruise 2010 - Friday July 9, 2010

Day 49 Sailing down the coast of Spain towards Gibraltar
It was a pleasant relief to have a day at sea today after the last four busy days on shore. We returned to our ship routine of lectures, reading, choir, dancing, reading and eating. Today, in addition to our normal meals, we decided to celebrate Joan’s birthday and have afternoon tea. We had scones and jam and cream with Joan at Emerald Lake on our last outing with her. As you can see from the photos they put on quite a feast with savory delicacies, as well as waffles, scones and jam and cream and small tarts of every description. It is most important for us to keep up the exercise if, having got on the ship as passengers, we do not want to get off the ship as cargo. We passed another P&O ship heading in the opposite direction this afternoon. It was the “Aurora” – a ship with an unlucky history all caused by the failure of the champagne bottle to break when it was launched by Princess Anne. On one occasion, it was 1 hour out of Southampton on a 100 day world cruise when its engines failed and the cruise had to be cancelled. The world cruise became known as the ferry ride around the Isle of Wight. The passengers had free access to the bars for 5 days and all the food was donated to local charities. (Bill and Barbara)
