Dawn Princess World Cruise 2010 - Saturday July 17, 2010

Day 57 Nearest land 2 km below us
We learnt today, that the closest land to our ship is not to the North, South, East or West but below us. We learnt some fancy steps for the waltz today, but by the time  we came to practise them tonight we had forgotten them. Richard Detrich gave us a run down on the great discoveries of the world this morning. He is an ex minister cum coffee grower and is an entertaining speaker. Some pros and cons re not landing in Dublin. We told you how good the four new Beatles guys were. Well, they could not get off in Dublin as planned so they are stuck on the ship till we get to Boston. Other entertainers who were meant to get on in Dublin couldn’t. Hence, the Beatles will perform again much to everybody’s delight. Evidently the guy who plays Paul in the Beatles had a wedding today in Liverpool, which he missed. Some passengers disembarked in Southampton and intended rejoining the ship in Dublin. One woman was getting off to see her sick father in the north of England. Now she will have to fly to Boston. We heard of someone who only took tablets for two days, and someone else who did not take a passport from the ship. Tonight we put our clocks back another hour. We travelled south-west today to try to get out of the extremely windy and cold weather we have been experiencing. All the women are in the shop on board buying pink tracksuits so that they can brave a walk on the deck. We expect to have better weather by tomorrow evening. We are off now to see the Dawn Princess singers and dancers perform. (Barbara)
