This is a significant day in our journey since it is the half-way point. I am watching the screen at the moment that shows the ship close to the coast of France and the English islands of Guernsey and Jersey (why were our jumpers/pullovers called by these names?) Nothing happens by accident on board this ship. 1000 passengers will be getting off in 2 days in Southampton. Princess Cruises go out of their way to make the last few days memorable for these people. There was a spectacular menu prepared for both lunch and dinner. The desert buffet at lunch was a work of art. “How do they do it?”, I asked a fellow passenger. “They work all through the night”, I was told. See photos for no description can do it justice. The main chef has prepared these deserts for heads of state throughout the world. Tonight was a formal affair for dinner. We have a table for ten but the only people who dress for dinner are ourselves and the Walpoles so we have always been a foursome on a large table. Tonight was Lobster and Bomb Alaska with singing included. Afterwards, we had a great tribute show to The Supremes and Motown. I watched the movie “Elizabeth – The Golden Years” this afternoon. We are sailing the same route taken by the Spanish Armada to England as depicted in this movie. As I said, nothing happens by chance on this ship. Yesterday, the Marx Brothers movie “A Night at the Opera” was on TV. One of the most memorable scenes takes place in a cabin on an ocean liner! (Bill)
