Dawn Princess World Cruise 2010 - Friday August 13, 2010

Day 84 One thousand nautical miles from Los Angeles
Today was another day at sea. I attended a lecture on Honolulu given by Richard and one on the war in the Pacific by Bruce Petty. We learnt a more complex step for the Foxtrot and this made us feel very pleased with ourselves. The lessons we attend now are actually called “advanced” which I think is a misnomer. Intermediate would be a better description. How much would 100 days of professional dance lessons on shore cost? Here it is free. We had another formal night tonight with the champagne waterfall. The staff go to so much trouble to ensure everyone has a good time. Tonight we had the pleasure of hearing Mac Frampton entertain us on the grand piano. He was an excellent pianist and entertainer. I think it was the best show we have had on the ship. He played some Scott Joplin, some Fats Waller, music from all the James Bond movies, Rhapsody in Blue by George Gershwin and Bolero by Ravel. Julie, the art director on board, sang Cry Me a River. She used to be a jazz singer, and has a lovely deep voice and woos an audience like a true professional. She is a personal friend of Mac and he urged her to join him in this song. Tonight we put our clocks back another hour so we are now 19 hours behind Melbourne. It will not be long before we lose a whole day. This will happen on August 28th. Already people are offering to pay for free drinks and free everything for everyone on this day which will not exist for us. (Barbara) I had the pleasure of meeting an ex-captain of the Western Bulldogs (aka Footscray) at breakfast this morning. He started his playing career as a 17 year old under the captaincy of Ted Whitten. He told a great story of his first match playing at full back against Doug Wade when Dougie was at the height of his career. He had 4 goals kicked against him in the first 5 minutes of the game. Can you guess his name, football fans? (Bill)
