Dawn Princess World Cruise 2010 - Saturday August 14, 2010

Day 85 1600 nautical miles from LA in an ocean 4 km deep
Again today we sailed south-west through the Pacific Ocean, which true to its name was very calm and peaceful. The weather is warming up as we travel south, so it is lovely to be out on deck without the wind that has been a little chilly for the last two days. I went to a lecture by the historian on the war in the south Pacific and southwest Pacific. Our dance for today was the Charmaine Schottische, difficult to say and quite complex to perform. Tonight we had drinks with Lynn, the gym junkie, Wayne who has a touch of the flu, Gaylene who is now over her illness and Brian. We had a good night and only finished dinner at 10 p.m. Lyn said to tell Bev that she is now an alcohol mule, who is called down to the pier by Wayne to help bring the alcohol on board when he is concerned that he has too much to bring on board. She is still doing great work in the gym and now has realized that she can plug ear phones in to hear the movies being played as she works the bikes and tread mills. I will try to get a photo. (Barbara) It’s getting a bit nostalgic now with the choir practising “Give me a home among the gum trees, with lots of plum trees, a sheep or two and a kangaroo. A clothes line out the back, verandah out the front, and an old rocking chair.” Typical suburban Melbourne. Not! My spirits were lifted today with the result of the Cats / Dogs game. The Cats are back in town! I have double or nothing riding on Geelong / Collingwood finals games. Watch out George. Whales are now making regular appearances in the Pacific next to the ship. “Thar she blows” echoes around the Promenade Deck when they surface. You have to wonder what else is down there in the 4 km below the keel. (Bill)

  1. Thanks for your great blog - we are following in your footsteps on the 2011 world cruise so enjoy reading of your adventures each day . I was very surprised to see your photo of Alexandra. She was our dinner table waitress last year on the Indian Ocean circumnavigation on the Sun Princess. We loved her fantastic service. Enjoy the rest of your trip. Cheers Cruiser Chick
