Dawn Princess World Cruise 2010 - Sunday August 8, 2010

Day 79 Manzanillo Mexico
We docked in Manzanillo this morning and I went on a tour, which involved shopping and beach. We went to a market, and then we had a bus tour of the Las Hadas area. The Las Hadas hotel was the one used in the movie, Ten, with Bo Derek. This area with its white buildings built into the hills reminded me a little of Santorini. After this we went to a Best Westin Hotel where we were welcomed by the manager and offered a complementary drink and were told to use the facilities of the hotel. I enjoyed relaxing by the pool and swimming up and down the pool. There was a private beach as well, but others told me it became deep very quickly and that there was a strongunder current, so I stayed with the 50 metre pool. (Barbara) On a thirty degree plus day, what better place to be than in the water. So, I joined an intrepid band of snorkel people to travel in the good boat “Explorer” to Santiago Bay one hour from Manzanillo Bay. Lots of dolphins accompanied our boat. The speed at which these elegant creatures move through the water is amazing. The boat would have held 150 people but with only 30 of us on board, it was very easy travelling to our point of disembarkation. The water was warm and the rain forest and mountain scenery around us was spectacular. The underwater scenery was pretty ordinary compared to the Barrier Reef but it was a pleasant 1.5 hours in the water. Our snorkel guides removed an octopus, a lung fish and another fish of unknown species from the sea and brought them on board in a bucket for viewing (something that would have been forbidden in Australia). They eventually returned them to the sea. I hope they survived. Our trip home consisted of free, high-powered alcoholic drinks and beer drinking contests which would perhaps have been more appropriate if our average age had been 30 years less. Good fun nonetheless. I was eliminated in the first round much to my relief. (Bill)
